ME 228 Transfer Credit

Transfer students may be able to receive credit in ME 228 Engineering Design Communication if you took at least a two-quarter unit CAD course using SolidWorks and can complete an assignment that shows proficiency in GDT, geometric dimensioning, and tolerancing. 

Below are the three potential ways to receive ME 228 credit from transfer coursework:

  1. You took a course at your community college that articulates to ME 228 on assist.orgIf this is the case there is nothing else you need to do, you will receive automatic credit for the course.

  2. If you did not take a course that articulates to ME 228, but took at least a two-quarter unit CAD course using SolidWorks, AND can show proficiency creating fully dimensioned detailed drawings in SolidWorks with geometric tolerances.**  

  3. Or you can submit any drawing that you have already done that is of the same caliber. Drawings must include proper orthographic views, dimensions, notes, and geometric tolerances.** 

**Students requesting credit via Option #2 or Option #3 above: 

To request credit for ME 228 please take the steps below: 

  • Complete THIS ASSIGNMENT
    • Access SolidWorks using your MyCalPoly portal. Choose Software Hub in the left hand menu. Download AppsAnywhere, search Solidworks, and install. 
  • Email a pdf of your drawing to Professor Leitzel at aleitzel@calpoly.edu and 'cc' eadvise@calpoly.edu by August 1st.
    • The subject must read “Transfer Credit Assignment”.
    • Once received, it will be reviewed by Mechanical Engineering faculty to determine if you can obtain credit for ME 228. 
    • If you have any questions about the assignment, please email Professor Leitzel directly at aleitzel@calpoly.edu 
  • You will be contacted with the decision before you register for fall quarter. If the drawing is approved, Engineering Student Services will work with you to complete a Petition for Major/Support Course Substitution to obtain official credit for ME 228.
