About Computer Engineering

The Computer Engineering major is an interdisciplinary program resting on the foundations of two departments: Computer Science and Electrical Engineering.

Catalog Changes

These catalog changes apply to CPE majors only.

  • Students following the 2015-17 through 2017-19 catalogs can substitute ENGR 459 (2) + ENGR 460 (2) + ENGR 461 (2) + CPE 400 (1) [7 total units] or ENGR 463 (2) + ENGR 464 (2) + ENGR 465 (2) + CPE 400 (1) [7 total units] for CPE 350 (4) + CPE 450 (3) [7 total units]. A petition is not required.
  • Students following the 2013-15 through 2017-19 catalogs who have switched majors may substitute AERO 121 or BMED 101 or CE 111 or EE 111 or ENVE 111 or ENGR 110 or IME 101 or ME 128 or ME 229 or MATE 110 for CPE 100.  A petition is not required.
  • Transfer students following the 2005-07 through 2017-19 catalogs may substitute 3 1/2 excess units from a CHEM 124 equivalent course + 1/2 excess unit from a PHYS 131 or 141 or 132 or 133 equivalent course for CHEM 125 (4). A petition is not required.
  • Students following the 2015-17 and 2017-19 catalogs may use DATA 301 for technical elective credit.  A petition is not required.
  • Students following the 2009-11 through 2015-17 catalogs may use a maximum of 4 units of CPE 400 for technical elective credit.  A petition is not required.
  • Students following the 2015-17 catalog may substitute CSC 141 (or transfer equivalent) if taken prior to Fall 2016 for CSC 348 (4).  A petition is not required.
  • Students following the 2015-17 catalog may use CPE 450 (4) for CPE 450 (3).  The excess unit will count as an approved technical elective.  A petition is not required.
