Virtual Advising

We know that this may be a stressful time - the team here in Engineering Student Services is here for you.

Please note that our team is dedicated to helping you, but we are receiving higher than normal inquiries. Additionally, we are working with a smaller team as COVID-19 continues to impact each of our personal and professional lives differently. We share this in case wait times for appointments, email responses, and drop-ins are a little longer than normal.

Given the above, please plan ahead when requesting an appointment and give us grace and patience as we work through this new reality with you.   Thanks for understanding and take care.

For updated campus information on the Coronavirus (COVID-19) please visit the university's official page: Coronavirus Information.

Newly Admitted Student Advising (Fall 2021)

If you are an incoming or prospective first year student, the Mustang Success Center will be your first contact for advising support.

If you are an incoming or prospective transfer student, please know that we may not have all the information available at this time to make an appointment really meaningful. We ask that you check out our transfer page to see updated information throughout the spring and summer.

Cal Poly is working hard at preparing materials and resources right now to help you prepare for registration in the fall. Here is what to expect:

  1. Cal Poly's Evaluations Unit of the Registrar's Office will evaluate your transfer coursework and award Cal Poly credit - we call this a "Transfer Evaluation.” You will be notified via email when your Transfer Evaluation is completed and ready for you to review on your Degree Progress Report  (this will most likely happen over summer).
  2. We are working closely with the Transfer Center to create an online training/orientation on Canvas that will be made available July 1st. The advisors worked hard to make this incredibly comprehensive. It includes: general resources for transitioning to Cal Poly & preparing for fall quarter, College of Engineering information & resources, department/major specific tips & resources, overview of how advising works in the college, and a detailed step-by-step process for fall registration. Please review this carefully when it is available.
  3. Finally, our office will be hosting a session during SLO Days. This is where we will be able to explain more major specific information, answer individual student questions and guide you through the registration process.
  4.  Registration for Fall Quarter will take place on August 16th.
