Full-time engineering students pursuing minors must make minimum progress
as outlined in the Cal Poly catalog which states, "Students are expected to enroll and complete a minimum of six units of major/support coursework each quarter with no more than four units outside of their declared major." The one course per quarter that
does not count toward the stated degree would be a minor course.
Minor students may request in writing to take two minor courses for
a particular quarter. The Minimum Progress Waiver form can be used for
this type of request. The form is available in the College of Engineering
Advising Center and should be submitted no later than the end of the first
week of the quarter in question.
Engineering students must begin minor coursework no later than their
junior year (two years from graduation) since most minors require a
minimum of six courses for the completion of the minor (if a student chooses
a minor that requires more courses, the minor should be declared sooner
than the junior year). Remember, that minimum progress requirements must
be met each quarter, so plan ahead. Students cannot add a minor during
their senior year.
