Minimum Standards for transfering into Mechanical Engineering - ME
Change of major requests are approved based on meeting the minimum standards listed below and space availability in the respective program (single majors only). Upper-division students may not be accepted due to excessive units and other issues concerning time to graduation. Students in the B.A. in Liberal Studies and Engineering Studies (who were not previously in the College of Engineering) must meet the criteria for students transferring from outside of the College of Engineering for change of major purposes (double majors are not an option). Students who were previously in the College of Engineering and who elected to transfer to BA LAES will not be accepted back to the College of Engineering.
***College of Engineering students transferring into ME (limited to
students who were originally accepted within the College of Engineering
as freshmen students) must complete:
1. Math 141, Chem 124, Math 142, Phys 131, Chem 125, Math 143 and Phys
132.
2. These courses must be completed with a 2.75 gpa. If any of the above
courses are taken more than once (e.g. a student receives less than a C-
grade and wants to retake the course), both grades are averaged together
to determine the 2.75 gpa requirement.
3. The Cal Poly cumulative gpa must be a 2.75 or higher OR a 2.75 gpa in all degree applicable major and support coursework.
4. Student cannot be on academic probation and must be at Cal Poly
for a minimum of one quarter.
5. Student must meet with a College of Engineering Advising Center advisor to complete a change
of major agreement (this agreement "locks in" the criteria at the time it is made).
6. Students who request to change their major late in their career may not be accepted into another major regardless if they meet the above criteria.
