Computer Science Minor Requirements
-
Questions concerning the minor should be directed to the College of Engineering
Advising Center (40-115).
- The CSC minor is not available to CSC, CPE, or SE majors.
-
The CSC minor consists of a total of 32 units. The core requirements total
16 units and the advisor approved upper-division courses total 16 units (explained below). Minor courses can be counted
toward the student’s major, support, and general education & breadth
requirements.
-
Once students have completed the core courses, they should make an appointment to see Dawn Sirois or Kim Marsalek in the College of Engineering Advising Center advisor to request acceptance into the minor.
-
Minor courses cannot
be graded CR/NC except for courses that have mandatory CR/NC grading.
-
Cal Poly cumulative grade point average must be a 2.75 or higher and the core courses must be completed with a 2.75 grade point average (no exceptions) to be eligible to request a CSC minor.
-
Half of the total minor units must be 300-400 level coursework.
-
Half of the courses that comprise the minor must be taken at Cal Poly.
-
Completion of the minor core course requirements does not guarantee admission
into the minor.
Disclaimer: All CSC courses are impacted. Registration preference
each quarter may be given to CSC, CPE, and SE major students (thus, completing the
minor may be difficult). Some CSC courses are crosslisted with CPE.
Core Courses (16 units)
CPE 101 Fundamentals of Computer Science I (4)
CPE 102 Fundamentals of Computer Science II (4)
CPE 103 Fundamentals of Computer Science III (4)
CSC 141 Discrete Structures (4)
Advisor Approved Courses (16 units)
All students must take CPE 357 Systems Programming (4) or CPE 353 Systems Programming for Software Engineering (4).
The remaining 12 units can be chosen from CSC/CPE upper-division courses open to CSC majors. These courses must be approved via the CSC minor form upon acceptance into the minor. Courses completed prior to acceptance may or may not be approved.
