Minimum Standards for transfering into Biomedical Engineering - BMED
Change of major requests are approved based on meeting the minimum standards listed below and space availability in the respective program (single majors only). Upper-division students may not be approved for a change of major if the change will prolong their time to graduation. Students in the B.A. in Liberal Studies and Engineering Studies (who were not previously in the College of Engineering) must meet the criteria for students transferring from outside of the College of Engineering for change of major purposes (double majors are not an option). Students who were previously in the College of Engineering and who elected to transfer to BA LAES will not be accepted back to the College of Engineering.
***College of Engineering students transferring into BMED must complete a minimum of one quarter at Cal Poly and have a 2.0 gpa for their current term, cumulative, and higher ed.
***Students transferring into BMED from outside of the College of Engineering must have completed (prior to their junior year):
1. Math 141, Chem 124, Math 142, Chem 125, Phys 141, Math 143, and Phys 132.
2. These courses must be completed with a 2.5 gpa. If any of the above courses are taken more than once (e.g. a student receives less than a C- grade and wants to retake the course), both grades are averaged together to determine the 2.5 gpa requirement.
3. Student cannot be on academic probation and must be at Cal Poly for a minimum of one quarter.
4. Student must meet with a College of Engineering Advising Center advisor to complete a change of major agreement (this agreement "locks in" the criteria at the time it is made).
***Students transferring into BMED from outside the College of Engineering with more than 89 higher education units must complete:
1. Math 141, 142, 143, 241, 244, Phys 141, 132, 133, Chem 124, CSC 101 or 234, ME 211, MATE 210, and EE 201.
2. These courses must be completed with a 2.5 gpa. If any of the above courses are taken more than once (e.g. student receives less than a C- grade and wants to retake the course), both grades are averaged together to determine the 2.5 gpa requirement.
3. Student cannot be on academic probation and must be at Cal Poly for a minimum of one quarter.
4. Student must meet with a College of Engineering Advising Center to complete a change of major agreement (this agreement "locks in" the criteria at the time it is made).
